Carter & Company/Mt. Diablo Handprints specializes in the meticulous recreation of historically significant wallpaper. We work from available documentation such as fragments of the original patterns, or photographs. Ideally, a full repeat of the pattern is the best sample to work from, but is not the only choice.
Once we receive a sample, we prepare an estimate on the cost of the pattern recreation. We define the design elements and determine colors in order to restore the patterns to their original appearance. We are also careful to retain the exact measurements of the document. Once the estimate is approved, we prepare a master drawing, which includes each element of the design; cut the separations for each color; mix the ink; prepare the screens and print a strike-off (this is a sample of the completed design that is sent to the client for approval).
At this stage, color adjustments can be made. When we receive final approval, the paper can be printed. Carter & Company reserves the right to add the recreated patterns to the Mt. Diablo Handprints Historical Collection. The documents belong to the client.
